Week 1 - Analysis of film openings

I have recently researched into film opening with features such as: what makes them effective, what information they send out to us and how they signalise a story line and genre.
  • Sound - Different instruments, tempos, max volumes and pitches can instantly interact with genre and story line. Sound can build and create tension also feed of a sign of happiness so due to regards of sound in a film it will normally create the mood on how the producer wants you to feel at that selected time or to throw you into thinking of possible outcomes or solutions.
  • Credits - Credits can link into possibly the most information about the film. The speed in which the text appears onto our screen and where it is located may lead to a hint or the name of a company could give you a possible genre. The font of the text could give you information also on the genre, for example posh, italic writing could be a love genre and a bold, red writing could signalise blood and lead into a horror.
  • Cut backs - Makes the audience think why they had purposely cut back to a shot, repetition shots also make us feel like its a main hint and put our mind set into what the flash back is and whats in the shot.
  • Lighting - Dark Lighting may signalise an emotion of upset or aggression however if a character or an object is purposely lit up more in a shot then others your attention focuses on that and could possibly mean its a main object or character.
