Gravitational Studios - Logo Design

I was left in charge of the logo design. I used a software called Photoshop CS5.

First i had to create a file with a reasonable size to work on with a logo.

Next step was to create a background that would give meaning and that i could work on. I used a gradient change from dark grey to black, as we are doing a detective film opening i want to give of the feel of mystery.

Soon after i created a font i felt was necessary to our genre and our name. I used a skinny and neat font to give of the feel of its light because our name is 'Gravitational Studios'. I also felt the need to make a bald black outline to still attract the eye to make up for the font not being as bald. This also creates a 3d effect.

I used many layers and effects to create this logo. You will also see white on the screen shot. The white paint represents the spot lights.

Soon after i felt the picture was near to being complete but needed a little colour just to draw your eye that little more but not to over do the design itself. I creates my own brush preset then soon started to place shapes in different sizes over the font with a decrease of opacity to make sure the font is still clear to the human eye then put a gradient of colours of the rainbow on to the shapes and this is my final design.

Week 3

Choosing a location
We have decided that we will all individually think of places we can film our video at, carry out a risk assessment and feed back to the other members of the team. As next week is the half term we have decided to meet up on Monday and Wednesday to work on our video planning. On Monday we will try to visit all of the suggested locations and evaluate them as a group as to which would be best suited to our task.
We are also individually creating a storyboard of a plan of what we think we should film to then again, feed back and choose the best parts of each storyboard and create one together that we will follow for our final video.

Charlie Green was allocated the job of creating the risk assessment form:

Where is the location?

Is the location inside or outside?

Are there any electrical hazzards?

If so, where are they and how can they, if at all, be solved?______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Are there any weather hazzards?

This is copied of Charlie Greens blog and i agree with what she has expressed in this form. I feel the lay out and wording sums our risk assesment up extreemly well.

Week 2 - Continuity Excersice Pictures

These are pictures we took for evidence through the duration of our continuity excersice practical.

Week 2 - Continuity Exercise Preparation

Shot 1 -

  • The camera will have an over look or the person approaching the door with the door still in the camera shot.
  • MS standing for 'mid shot' will mean the camera will start in the position or seeing just the shoulders and head of the person approaching the door.
  • HA standing for 'high angle' i chose this because it will allow us to keep the door in the shot.
  • 3.5 second duration
  • In the sound for this shot i want to have a knocking noise when he's at the door and a minor delay of waiting to make it look like he is waiting for confirmation to enter.

Shot 2 -
  • The camera will have a stationary shot on the door handle, this will be filmed to show the process of the door opening.
  • XCU standing for 'extreme up close' meaning the shot will just have the door handle in the frame.
  • I will plant this camera shot slightly to the side, i will be doing this procedure to ensure i keep within the 30 degree rule. The 30 degree rule is where the camera shot changes but needs to keep the same angle so the make it look realistic and a better quality you slightly change the angle by 30 degrees, you don't have to be incredibly accurate.
  • When the door opens i want some sort of chord sequence with strings to come in to create a sweet harmony.
  • 1 second duration.

Shot 3 -
  • The camera will have an over look of the person at the door entering from a distance with his eyes located 2/3rd's the way up the frame, and a laid out table with paper and pens with a low angle and the guy in the rooms shoulder slightly in the shot.
  • LA standing for 'low angle' i want this shot to make the audience question to why the camera is looking up at the person at the door, at the same time it will give a better quality picture to show what is on the table also the camera angle will almost represent what the person sitting waiting for the person entering can see.
  • The person approaching to have a good posture and well presented to show he came prepared for the occasion, also to have a distinctive clip board or book for him to be holding in his arms.
  • 4 Second duration.

Shot 4 -
  • Close up on the person going to sit down un doing the button on his suit and to place the book/clipboard firmly on the table and slide it to the other side where the other person is sat.
  • Pan up to a high angle to give us completely information on which is placed on the table and head and shoulders or the person sitting and a mid shot of the person that has just sat down.
  • The pan will hopefully create a good connection in the shot.
  • 2 Second duration.

Shot 5 -
  • This will be my master shot which in the editing process i will cut in and out of the most frequent, it has a mid angle to show the full range of action.
  • LS and zoom in to create a better feel towards the conversation.
  • 4 Second duration just to ensure i have enough film to work with in the cut ins.

Shot 6 -
  • An over look on person A to be shown when he is speaking.
  • MS containing some of the shoulder and head of person B however still capturing person A talking.
  • Staying within the 180 degree rule to show realism.
  • 5 Second duration to catch everything he says within the dialogue.

Shot 7 -
  • An over look on person B to be shown when he is speaking.
  • MS containing some shoulder and head of person A however still capturing person B talking.
  • Staying within the 180 degree rule to represent realism.
  • 5 Second duration to catch everything he says within the dialogue.

Shot 8 -
  • The ending shot will end with a good capture of lighting where person A and person B Shake hands to represent a seal of deal.
  • HA with a gradual pan into the depth of the hug to end the scene in black.
  • MS will leave us enough time to pan deep enough in where all we can see is black.
  • Resume the strings instrumental to represent a atmosphere within the hand shake
  • Duration 2 seconds, enough time for the pan in.

Week 1 - Analysis of film openings

I have recently researched into film opening with features such as: what makes them effective, what information they send out to us and how they signalise a story line and genre.
  • Sound - Different instruments, tempos, max volumes and pitches can instantly interact with genre and story line. Sound can build and create tension also feed of a sign of happiness so due to regards of sound in a film it will normally create the mood on how the producer wants you to feel at that selected time or to throw you into thinking of possible outcomes or solutions.
  • Credits - Credits can link into possibly the most information about the film. The speed in which the text appears onto our screen and where it is located may lead to a hint or the name of a company could give you a possible genre. The font of the text could give you information also on the genre, for example posh, italic writing could be a love genre and a bold, red writing could signalise blood and lead into a horror.
  • Cut backs - Makes the audience think why they had purposely cut back to a shot, repetition shots also make us feel like its a main hint and put our mind set into what the flash back is and whats in the shot.
  • Lighting - Dark Lighting may signalise an emotion of upset or aggression however if a character or an object is purposely lit up more in a shot then others your attention focuses on that and could possibly mean its a main object or character.

Researching Into Genres

Horror -

  •  'Are unsettling that strive to elicit the emotions of fear and disgust'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horror_film
  • Tend to be highly intense films were the viewer/reader can really interact with the story line.
  • Generally quite scary and jumpy created through the sound and orchestras contained within a horror film.

Thriller -
  • Thrillers main elements consist of 'suspense, tension and excitement' all three connect very well, we know this because there is a big target audience for thriller genres. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thriller_(genre)
  • Thrillers tend to build a mood upon the audience, the interaction of the film could be based around experiences of our real world that we have stumbled upon meaning that the audience can relate to modern times and grow deeper into the story line.

Detective **Our official genre for our coursework** -
  • 'Detective films are a sub-genre of the crime genre and triller' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mystery_film
  • Normally are made to make you assume and run of with your own ideas in how something happened and how it could be solved
